|For this reason, i decided to build an engine test stand to operate the engine prior to installation, plus, it is a good way to keep an engine from sitting too long without it being run. here are a few pictures of the almost completed engine test stand.. I would never trust a wood frame to hold an engine. i've pulled engines from wood beams above, with a chainfall, but that is a well calculated risk and load tables are available to check what the beam will handle in bending stresses, based on the size and wood species... Go to google and search for 'automotive engine test stand' there's plenty of pics you can follow. easy to build - just like willys36 said - jy radiator, 2 gal gas can and some gauges. lots of jet engine test stands and vw test stands. just keep looking. i made one up 2x2 3/16" square tubing. on nice wide casters..
